P2-02: For HP LaserJet and Compatibles -------------------------- #27840/1225 HP-LJ Fonts #1 Small Programs Disk -------------------------- Apple Guber, Sol $10 is a landscape oriented 24 point downloadable font for HPLJ II printers. It is a medium stroke attractive font. Camelot Guber, Sol $10 is a very ornate soft font in old English style in 24 point landscape for the HPLJ II. Candy Guber, Sol $10 is a candy striped soft font in 23 point landscape for the HPLJ II. CompuSym (COMPUSY) contains downloadable fonts to print computer key symbols to represent the cursor keys and SP, RET, ESC, DEL, FF, LF, TAB - each with a little box around it to indicate a keytop. Fonts for both landscape and portrait modes, 10 point, proportional. Computer-Tech (CMPTECH) Balog, Norman M. $5 is a soft font file of a neo-tech, computerized style for the HP LaserJet or compatible. FontFilt (FONTFIL) Bumgardner, Jim $? converts an HP LaserJet font into a hollow (outline) or 3D (shaded) font. FT10 Orbit Enterprises $? is a font for the HP LaserJet Plus designed to allow printing screens that use ASCII line graphics. When we tested this on an Epson GQ-3500 with an HP emulation card, it drew the line graphics fine, but it dropped uppercase text down a line (!). NOTE: the files GRAPH.TXT, FNT.TXT and BOXCHR.TXT are sample files for testing this font, but you may want to print them out to use as a reference if you ever use ASCII graphics yourself. HelvFont (HELVFON) Elfring, Gary $? contains both portrait and landscape versions of a "Helvetica" like proportionally spaced soft font. The package includes regular, bold, and italic versions of each font with 10 point heights. These fonts should be compatible with any of the LaserJet series of printers. They have been tested on a LaserJet II, using the download program included with this package. HP displays soft fonts on the screen. CGA or EGA required. HPHebrew (HPHEBRE) Hexagon Products $25 creates Hebrew soft fonts for the HP LaserJet II printer. It will generate soft fonts in any combination of the following: portrait or landscape; fixed width or proportional spaced; light, regular, or bold stroke; filled or hollow characters; and point sizes from 3 to 72. It has all the usual downloading options. HPSoft Gottlieb, Larry $? is a set of soft fonts for the HP LaserJet+: TINY.SFP, VERY small type, barely readable; LARGE.SFP, large, bold letters (somewhat crude); LARGEHLW.SFP, large, hollow letters. Oblique Guber, Sol $10 is light airy font in 24 point landscape for the HPLJ. Olde-18 is an Old English font in 18 point print. Reverse (REVERS1) contains two downloadable font for the LaserJet. Both fonts feature reverse (white on black) printing. Our test was marred by the fact that spaces between words were still white rather than black, making print-outs look like pasted-up ransom notes. Script10 Elfring, Gary $? contains a portrait version of a 10 point Script proportionally spaced soft font. This is an excellent font, but 10 point seems rather small for a script font. Script18 is a script font in 18 point print. Teeny Font is a 2 point soft font for the HP LaserJet. (Get out your magnifying glass.) ToyLand Guber, Sol $10 is a very unusual soft font for the HPLJ in that the letters are the shapes of toys. For example a = apple, b = bow and so forth. It is 18 point size in portrait and landscape. Venus is a set of softfonts for the HPLJ. It includes 12-, 20-, and 29-point sizes of a sanserif style proportionally spaced typeface. -------------------------------- END OF SMALL PROGRAMS DISK #1225 -------------------------------- -------------------------- #27840/1263 HP-LJ Fonts #2 Small Programs Disk -------------------------- Cen60 is a 60-point Centrum font. Courier Straightforward $10-$25 is a Courier PC 12-point font. Cyrill Walter, Alexander $0 is a Russian (Cyrillic) 10-point font. Engraved (ENGRAVD) Nelson, Ken $0 is a Broadway type font. FixedFnt (FIXEDFN) are non-proportional Helvetica and Times fonts for the HPLJ. These fonts are normally proportional and thus cannot be used easily with applications that need data to be evenly spaced, such as accounting software or other columnar oriented reports. HandWr Walter, Alexander $0 is an 18 point handwriting font for HP LaserJet. Although 18 point sounds large, it is not for a script font. Hiero Walter, Alexander $0 contains an 18 point, Egyptian Hieroglyphics bitmapped soft font for HP LaserJet printers. This is a strictly a symbol font. HPStuff Toren, Rip $0 is a set of utilities for the HP LaserJet. The primary feature is the ability to print upper ASCII graphics characters without a special font cartridge. Tmsn3060 (TMSN306) is a set of Times Roman fonts in 30 and 60 point. -------------------------------- END OF SMALL PROGRAMS DISK #1263 -------------------------------- -------------------------- #27840/1262 HP-LJ Fonts #3 Small Programs Disk -------------------------- HLV8-18 is a set of Helvetica fonts for the HP LaserJet. Sizes are 8, 10, 12 and 18 in regular, bold and italics, in landscape and portrait. TR-SFL Times Roman fonts in a variety of sizes in landscape mode. TR-SFP Times Roman fonts in a variety of sizes in portrait mode. -------------------------------- END OF SMALL PROGRAMS DISK #1262 -------------------------------- -------------------------- #27841/1672 Font Utilities Small Programs Disk -------------------------- DispFont (DISPFNT) Elfring, Gary $0 prints a sample sheet of HP LaserJet soft fonts for easy reference when selecting fonts. The symbol map also shows each character in the font along with the decimal code required to select that character. DownLD Holmgren, R. J. $? downloads soft_font_files to the LJ II either individually or stacked (as many as 20 files on one command line). Stacking can save a significant amount of time. Fontid Software Architects Inc. $? These programs replace the BASIC routines supplied by HP with each soft font package. The advantage of these routines over the HP ones is that they are command line driven, so that you may construct a batch file to download a set of fonts automatically. Fonts (The Font Loader) Drumm, Jeff $? lets you download user-defined sets of fonts into the HPLJ. Using HP's PCLPAK for this purpose takes more disk space because you end up with multiple copies of each font file: the original plus those inside each download set. FontSum 1.01 Orbit Enterprises, Inc. $20 prints a summary of specified soft fonts. It loads and prints 15 different fonts equally spaced on a page, making a handy reference sheet. Requires an HP LaserJet and a collection of soft fonts. LaserFon is a font selecter for the HPLJ. ListFont (LISTFNT) Hickey, Daniel J. $0 is designed to catalog soft fonts for the HP LaserJet. For each file selected, it prints out the font header and a sample of all the characters in the font. The printout can then be put in a binder for reference. PSLJ Gibson, Don Phillip $0 converts New PrintShop graphics to LaserJet fonts. The resulting soft font file may be downloaded to a laser printer and accessed as a graphic icon from your word processor or desktop publishing program. Also included is CHART, which shows you which image is assigned to which screen character. PST Satz, David $? is actually two tiny programs that send the proper control strings to the HPLJ II for identifying the fonts you want to download. STest Graham, Keith P. $0 is a Basic program which can read HP soft fonts. For those interested in hacking soft fonts. Trim Gibson, Don Phillip $0 lets you trim down the size of a soft font file by deleting characters from it that you do not want. For example, if you had a large font file from which you only wanted a few specific characters, you could select those and delete the rest. Varifont 1.0 (VARIFNT) Conroy, Harry $20-$60 will convert an HPLJ soft font into a new font of the same typeface, but of a different size, shape, texture, character set, or other attribute. It will make characters 50% or 100% taller, 33% to 50% thinner, or 50% or 100% thicker. It will create mirror-image characters. It offers a large number of predefined patterns that can be added to the characters or to the background. It will also create outline fonts. This is an interesting utility because you could conceivably create a whole range of font sizes from a single font. The fonts generated by this program can be manually downloaded into the LaserJet or they can be used automatically with any program which supports soft fonts, such as WordPerfect and PFS:First Publisher. ZEP Graham, Keith P. $? is a TSR for loading and selecting Hewlett Packard soft fonts. They allow a user to load a new soft font, switch to a new soft font or embed easy to use selection codes in text files that are to be printed. -------------------------------- END OF SMALL PROGRAMS DISK #1672 -------------------------------- ----------------------------- #27841/2310 Font Utilities #2 Small Programs Disk ----------------------------- BitFont 3.8 Patin, Bruce J. $15 lets you design or modify fonts of bit-mapped characters for downloading to printers such as the HP LaserJet II and the Epson dot matrix printers. This program is not for the novice. Note that the accompanying sample files are configuration files, not actual sample fonts. FontLoader 1.51 (FONTLDR) Temple, Will $25 is an HP LaserJet soft font loader that can rotate, scale, make thin or wide, mirror, turn upside down and turn a proportional font into a monospaced font - all on the fly. "On the fly" means that these features are controlled by adding text-based commands to your files or to a special input file. FontLoader can create new fonts or minimize the number of fonts you need to keep on your hard disk. For example, you could load a 48pt font and scale it down to 8, 12, 18, 24, 36 or any in-between sizes you want. You can also scale up, but as is always the case with resizing laser output, you always get better quality by scaling down. Outline and white-on-black options are included. Other features include a width table option which creates an ASCII text file of font information; the ability to change the weight of a font; the ability to rotate a font without changing the page alignment, letting you easily mix "portrait" and "landscape" characters; and the ability to "shave" dots from the outside edges of each character. Fonts can be angled between 1 to 75 degrees, and label font italic and label font upright are included. FontView 3.0 & FontClean (FONTVC) Moody, S. H. $17 FontView displays information about HPLJ softfont files and displays each character magnified on an EGA screen. FontClean cleans up the header record in a font file. MakeTable 1.0 (MAKETBL) Unique Software ASP $25 will build a standard PC-WRITE width table for HPLJ (and compatible) softfonts. This makes it possible to use proportional width softfonts with PC-Write. -------------------------------- END OF SMALL PROGRAMS DISK #2310 -------------------------------- BuildFnt Hexagon Products $20 #27841/1414 is a set of soft fonts for the HP laser printer. It consists of a serif and sans serif font that can be printed in any combination of point sizes 6, 8, 10, or 12, fixed or proportional spaced, and portrait or landscape orientation. --------------------------------- #27842/1226 HPLJ File Printing #1 Small Programs Disk --------------------------------- CTable 4.1 Thompson, John R. $20 aids in incorporating downloadable fonts for the HP LaserJet and your word processor. The program can handle fonts up to 40k and only ASCII characters 32 to 127. LaserJet Lister Utility 2.0 (LJ2UP) Barnhart, Joe $0 is a utility that prints ASCII text files in "2-up" (two pages on each piece of paper) format on an HP LaserJet printer. To run this program, you need a font cartridge with the Line Printer font in landscape form. LJ2UP works under OS/2. `C' source code is included. LJ Lontka, Bruce J. $? prints files on the HP LaserJet printer files in a landscape font at 16.6, 27.2 or 30 character to the inch. LJ2 prints a series of files on the LaserJet printer. The files are printed in a "landscape" font at 17 characters to the inch. To take advantage of this density, two "pages" of information from the file are printed on each piece of paper (left and right halves). You can specify the number of lines per page to print, ignore formfeed characters, and do complex printing. C source code included. LP16 Buerg, Vernon D. $0 prints a file on an HP Laser printer with top and bottom margins and a page header that shows the file name, date and a page number. You can specify 6 or 8 lines per inch and 10, 12 or 17 characters per inch. LPR Hall, Barrie $20 is a two-pass file printing program. The first pass, it analyzes the file with an eye towards minimizing paper usage. Supports HP LaserJet and LJ+ and IBM/Epson printers. One useful feature is the ability to strip out the fancy over-printed lines, and backspace-underline sequences that some documentation file writers feel compelled to add. LPR is especially useful for stripping out junk characters and lines out of downloaded files. LZList 2.0 RWR Consulting $5 allows you to print files in landscape mode on the LaserJet. It is primarily designed for printing source code. It automatically numbers the lines and produces 1/2" grey bars for easier reading. It also prints the date, program name and page number on each page. -------------------------------- END OF SMALL PROGRAMS DISK #1226 -------------------------------- --------------------------------- #27842/3141 HPLJ File Printing #2 Small Programs Disk --------------------------------- JetCol 2.7 ARCaine Technology $30 reduces the amount of paper used when printing reference material with a laser printer. It prints two columns, each up to ninety characters wide, ignores page breaks and eliminates blank lines. Up to 10 pages can be printed on one side of a sheet of paper. It will also print alternate pages for using both sides of the paper. LJBook 3.5 Buerg, Vernon D. $20 lets you print booklets on an HPLJ. Features include DOS sharing, the ability to print on A4 size paper, duplex printing, continuous printing options, and hole punch margins. A crisp internal font that includes the line-drawing characters is included. Page Print 1.0 (PAGE-PR) Optus Software, Inc. $? will print a file on an HPLJ sideways (landscape mode), two pages to a side of paper. Options include adding "green" bars, borders, shading, and tab control. Pamphlet 3.1 (PAMPHLE) Beattie, Martin $? prints a file on an HP Laser printer, four pages per sheet of paper (two pages on each side) in such page order that when the sheets are folded, they are in the proper page number order. Options allow page headings and a cover sheet with title. It also has a built-in editor for reviewing and making minor changes in files before printing them. The program allows you to use the cartridge or soft font and line density of your choice. A soft font loading utility is included. P4Up 3.2 Arendt, Bill ASP $30 prints four pages on one side of one sheet of paper using the HPLJ II and a downloaded 4-point (21.4 cpi) font. It will runs on the HP DeskJet and LaserJet Plus using soft fonts, and on the HP ThinkJet using graphics mode. There is an even- and odd-side option for two-sided printing, and support for A4 paper is included. Other features include support for up to five columns and rows per page, printing pages top-to-bottom or left-to-right, two-sided printing, and more. SideTwo 1.01 Microsystems Software, Inc. $49 is a 20k TSR spooler and file printer that lets you produce two-sided output from any word processor. It will print in 1,3,5,7,9 - 10,8,6,4,2 page order automatically. Only one re-feed is required even if you have requested 20 copies. It supports soft fonts, line-heights, macros, and more within the print stream. Xprt 4.6 Bearden, Paul R. $10 is a file printing utility for HP LaserJets compatible printers. Selectable options are compressed, Elite, Pica, or miniature print; port selection; gray bar for user-specifed numbers of lines; header; indent; and more. -------------------------------- END OF SMALL PROGRAMS DISK #3141 -------------------------------- 4Print 4.15 Korenthal Associates, Inc. ASP $55 #27842/1789 is a multiple ASCII file printing utility. In addition to HPLJs, it supports the HP DeskJet, the LaserMaster (Ricoh 4081 engine) and Epson GQ3500. Special support is also included for the HP LaserJet IID duplex printer. A4 size paper is also supported for the European market. 4Print can combine columns to print spreadsheets, documents and program listings up to 165 characters wide. In addition, 4PRINT can automatically download an internal soft font which prints 110 characters across in two columns or 230 characters across in a single column. Limited support for proportional fonts and IBM-style binder creation is included. Multiple copies can be printed in a single run. Other features include vertical image compression and expansion to handle a wider variety of close compatible printers; an option for 20 to 100+ lines per page; document vertical indenting, centering, and compressing; the ability to print three or four columns on a landscape page; three different word wrapping options, including a special programmer's wrap in which continuation lines are indented from the starting line; line formatting that allows arbitrary character positions to be selected, transposed, and interspersed with any text; mainframe carriage control; six soft fonts including four for LaserJets and two for DeskJets which can enhance output; two tray-selection options; and the ability to view four or six full pages side by side. -------------------------- #27843/0864 HPLJ Utilities Small Programs Disk -------------------------- Epson Emulator 2.0 (EPSMUL8) Pliable Products $18 is a 24K TSR that lets LaserJets print documents from Epson-only programs. It handles low-density graphics, as well as different Epson pitches. HPSet is a printer control utility for the HPLJ printer. Pascal source code is included. HPXFont .2 MerderonthaOreonTex Press $9-$24 clears all soft fonts from HP Laserjet printers. HPXMacro .2 (HPXMAC) MerderonthaOreonTex Press $9-$24 clears all macros from HP Laserjet printers. JetSet is a printer setup program for the LaserJet printer. Jet Pilot 1.2 (JPILOT) Morton, Robert L. ASP $40 will control every feature of your LaserJet or compatible printer. It lets you change page settings such as paper size, orientation, and margins, and change font characteristics such as typeface, pitch, height, and style. You can print envelopes with addresses grabbed from the screen. Settings can be saved and reloaded to set your LaserJet to specific settings. This program can run as a TSR or standalone, and expanded memory is supported. Laserjet Setup Utility 5.03 (LSU) Gallo, Guy $25 functions as either a utility to set various parameters on the Laserjet family of printers so that software which does not fully address these printers can be made to use fonts and functions that would otherwise be inaccessible, or as a stand-alone program to print ASCII text files, and to address envelopes. res:65k LJ III Setup 1.1 (LJSETUP) Marquette, Michael D. $5 allows changing of general page options, fonts (bitmapped and scalable) and entering the HP-GL/2 mode on an HPLJ III. LJCP Kalman, Steve $25 is a printer control program for the HPLJ. It has a help module, and mouse support is provided. LJPrt 1.0 Nafziger, Lawrence J. $0 is a printer control utility for the HPLJ printers. It provides a full-screen display of options. You can quickly move to an option line by pressing a high-lighted letter and cycle through the options by pressing a key. You can select typefaces, margins, paper size and orientation. You can also select a file to print and add a header to the pages. Complex set-ups can be saved to disk for later re-use. (The author is no longer at the address provided in the documentation.) Ltest 1.02 JRP Software $? performs several printing checks on HP LaserJet compatibles. -------------------------------- END OF SMALL PROGRAMS DISK #0864 -------------------------------- ----------------------------- #27843/3703 HPLJ Utilities #2 Small Programs Disk ----------------------------- Auto123 is a 1-2-3 macro that makes it easier to manage HPLJ setup strings. Claser Graham, Keith P. $? is a multi-purpose utility for the HPLJ. It allows switching between LPT1: LPT2: and COM1 and COM2 through menus; provides font setup and control though menus or simple flags embedded in text; allows graphics screen dumps; provides Epson emulation, including full-page graphics with limited LJ memory. May not work with other printers that emulate the HPLJ. Expects the B cartridge to be installed. res:30k HPmenpd is a very slick printer control program for HPLJ's. HP-Pages are text files filled with HP LaserJet control codes which, when printed, show the many features possible with the HP in both the portrait and landscape modes. JetSet1 is a resident utility which performs two functions. It converts IBM-PC character set to H-P Roman-8 character set. Characters 128 - 175 (except 169 and 170) are converted to the HP-Laserjet equivalent. The program also makes it possible to choose fonts on the Laserjet by means of an easy-to-remember short sequence with the format: "ESC ESC [x] [o]" where [x] denotes the font and [o] denotes the orientation. ([o] can be 0 = portrait or 1 = landscape). LaseIt 3.3 Leggit, Rich $25 is a HPLJ file printing and printer control utility. Not only will it print text files, adding the usual headers, etc, it will let you adjust inter-character and inter-line spacing to allow from 1 to 250 characters per line and up to 32,000 lines per page. Naturally, at the extreme settings, characters will begin to overwrite each other just a tad, even after it switches to the small font. It will also print in landscape mode, print on both sides, print a selected range of pages of a file, leave a left margin, print multiple copies, and more. The defaults for printing a file are 66 lines per page, 80 characters per page, 8 spaces for tab expansion, 0 left margin, and page numbers start with "1". Laser is a general purpose processor to help you get the most out of your HP LaserJet+ and LaserJet 500+ Printers. It is capable of controlling the very simple operations of Page Eject, Margin Setting, Etc., to the very complex operations of Downloading/Implementing Fonts, and Ruler Forms Overlay. Laser66 adjusts an HP LasetJet printer to print 66 lines per page. Laser Utilities (LJUTILS) Kelly, Brian $0 is a TSR that allows you to eject a page from the printer and/or reset the printer while running another program. The page eject will work with most printers. LG-LJ Graham, Keith P. $? LG is a graphics screen dump for the HP LaserJet. LJ66 puts the LaserJet into the 66-lines-per-page mode. LJReset Veaner, Dan $0 lets you reset the HP LaserJet without using the reset buttons. This lets you clear out settings left by other programs. LJSleeve 1.0 (LJSLEEV) JMJ Software ASP $15 prints 3-1/2" or 5-1/4" disk storage sleeves on LaserJet printers with the disk's directory printed on it. Just cut and tape. LJVGA 2.0 Ares Technologies $10-$20 is a 6.5K TSR that allows you to print any VGA or Super VGA screen to an HP LaserJet or compatible printer. It will even print 256-color graphics screens. It is very slow when printing graphics. P4PrtSc 1.0 Hexagon Products $20 is 35K TSR, print-screen function for laser printers. A tiny soft font is used to capture multiple screen images on one page. Support is provided for letter, legal, and A4 paper sizes, text screens other than 80x25, and printers attached to parallel or serial ports. PMode BeBee, Jim $? is a very simple utility to set a serial port to 19200 baud. The author wrote it for use with an HP LaserJet (connected to several PC's) to reset the serial port on the PC to allow faster transmission of graphics data. PrtSc (PrtScJZ) Zuck, Johnathon $5-$10 allows you to print graphics screens regardless of the adapter or mode to either an Epson or an HP Laserjet compatible printer. You can print to the HP in three resolutions. The program also supports multiple screen modes. -------------------------------- END OF SMALL PROGRAMS DISK #3703 -------------------------------- ------------------------ #27843/1289 HP-LJ, Other Small Programs Disk ------------------------ 2LJutil Graham, Keith P. $0 Two LaserJet Utilities, one to set the HPLJ to 66 lines per inch and another to enable graphics screen dumps to the HPLJ from CGA graphics screens. BarCode Wood, Bill & Feied, Craig $0 prints "3 of 9 bar codes" on an HP LaserJet printer. The program does not store data on disk, but since the program comes as an uncompiled BASIC program, it could be easily modified. (BASIC or GWBASIC required.) BarCode 1.0 (BRCODE) HPLJ Systems Development $0 print Barcode 3 of 9 on HPLJ II or compatible printer. CWBars 1.2e Charlotte Wood Software $20 lets you print Postnet barcodes on your outgoing U.S. mail with an HP compatible laser printer. You can print barcodes manually, automatically or by arranging for your software to output a special escape sequence to your printer at the location where the barcodes are desired. GrayRule 1.2 (GRAYRUL) Advance Systems $0 lets you control the HPLJ's powerful rule, Grayscale and pattern functions. GreyBar .10 Davis, Michael S. $0 will set your HP Laserjet II or III compatible printer to print with shaded bars similar to "greenbar" computer paper. This will work with any software that does not reset the printer. This is great for use with spreadsheets and accounting programs. If your software resets the printer, print to disk and then copy the file to PRN. HPL2Ven Campbell, Vince $0 converts HP LaserJet fonts for use with Ventura. HPMaze Dean, James L. $0 draws a complex maze on HP LJ IID printer. Given 640K bytes of memory, 720K bytes of disk space on the default drive, and sufficient time, it will will generate a 768 room three dimensional maze at 300 dpi on the HPLJ. You can repeat mazes or make each one different. TP5 source code is included. HPPS 7.6 May, Darin $0 is a graphics driver for the HPLJ+ and the Series II. (It works fine on our HP-compatible Epson laser.) Options include reversing black and white. It supports the CGA and EGA and it worked on our VGA, but not for the higher solutions. Other features include margin reset and printer reset output before all screens, and printing of all EGA planes. Assembler source code is included. res: 1k IBM2HPJ 1.0 Sheridan, Sally and Lewis, Mark $? is a small program, non-resident, that when used with a program that writes IBM Graphics Printer output to a file, may be used to print that file on a Hewlett-Packard Laserjet printer. It was written as a response to the overpriced commercial software that allows the LaserJet to emulate an IBM Graphics Printer. IBM2HPJ is not a full emulation. It supports only graphics written for the IBM Graphics Printer using that device's lowest density. Higher densities are not possible with the standard LaserJet. Jet-SD this utility allows you to print the contents of your IBM PC or PC/XT display screen using the LaserJet or ThinkJet printers. The utility also operates with the Hercules high-resolution graphics board. LJMacros (LJMACRO) Engholm, C. Rudy $? are macros for WordPerfect and the HPLJ with some macros taking special advantage of the HPLJ F-cartridge which the author says gives a superior looking proportional type compared to the B-cartridge and which has a much wider variety of symbols. LoGo Gregg, Whitfield $? will insert a logo symbol into any document for printing on a HP LaserJet printer. These styles include the normal portrait orientation with either 10, 12 or 16 characters per inch (cpi) and landscape orientation with two pages printed per sheet at 16 cpi. Using both sides of the paper, it will print four pages of 72 lines each on letter size paper. It will also print on legal size and print files in the form of a booklet. Dr. $? #1320 lets you create posters of large text. It starts by downloading a large font (either normal or shadow, about 60 point) into the HPLJ and then displays an editing area of about 20 lines of 45 characters. When finished typing your poster, the program will print it using the large font. Unfortunately, the fonts are proportionally pitched, which makes it difficult to position text or get equal left and right margins, but it might be handy for making signs and transparencies, nevertheless. QFont Jamestown Software $80 #3047 is a soft font editor for bitmapped fonts for HP LaserJet and compatible printers. It supports Hercules Mono, EGA and VGA. Requires 512K. A Mouse is recommended. softJet II 2.3B [SJII] Steiner, Wesley $35 #2642 (09-93 CD) lets you preview on screen output intended for the printer in HPLJ's PCL format. Features include Draft and Zoom options, full spacing support for many of the popular HP font cartridges, Page Up and Page Down through the output, Goto any page of the output, Measure the position of output on a page, Preview with any HP compatible soft fonts and download soft fonts to the printer. It also comes with a small utility program PRNDSK.COM that allows any application to redirect printer output to a disk file. TSR Download Elfring Soft Fonts ASP $49 #2023 is a pop-up soft font manager that also works from the command line. It supports up to 100 soft fonts. Also on the disk are 12 point Helvetica and Roman medium, bold, italic soft fonts for both the LaserJet and DeskJet. Elfring tells us that the LJ fonts are exact imitations of HP's AC soft font set, so they can be used with almost any word processor. TSR DL lets you pop up a menu while in any non-graphics program and easily load and select fonts and execute other printer control commands. Configuration routines and a TSR manager for easier use in Lotus and MS Word are included. The program also incorporates automatic soft font decompression, and automatic creation of landscape fonts when needed. This can be used under Windows 3.0, and only requires 7K of RAM.
